Please note: Due to work and other current commitments, I am currently unable to undertake reedmaking requests.
As a fledgling piper, I found that a supply of responsive, well made reeds was one my biggest concerns. Additionally, learning to adjust reeds in response to changes in relative humidity, temperature (and maybe 'moon phase') was yet another skill that the piper must master in order to keep his pipes in good voice under all conditions. In the early days, I went through many reeds, and eventually realised that learning to make my own reeds was the way to go. I consider myself extremely fortunate in receiving expert tuition in reedmaking from the great Alan Burton who has an well established track record as one of the worlds finest reedmakers.
Mastering the skills of reedmaking is not an overnight affair and I have practised this black art for many years and now feel able to offer a reedmaking service for Froment concert pitch chanters. Monsieur Froment is a wonderfully consistent pipemaker, and as such I feel that reeds which are finished in my own Froment chanter will most probably work well in other Froment concert pitch chanters. Of course, my own playing environment will most likely differ from other pipers' environments in terms of average humidity and temperature, and as such, some finishing adjustments may have to be carried out 'in situ'. However, I am able to provide advice in this regard and consider it an integral part of 'aftersales care'.
Offering a reedmaking service for
Froment concert pitch chanters means
that it is not necessary for
the customer to go through the stress and worry of posting their precious
chanter to me. I am willing to make reeds for chanters made by other
pipemakers, but this will require me having access to the customers
chanter so that the reed can be 'finished' and tested properly.
Please feel free to contact me to place orders for reeds, and to discuss
pricing and other requirements.
